How to make a carrier feel like part of home

A carrier becomes easier to use when it stops appearing only on travel day. Leave it open in a calm part of the home and let your pet investigate it without pressure.

Start with placement

Choose a quiet, familiar spot. Add a washable mat or blanket that already carries a familiar scent, and keep the door secured open.

Build a small routine

Offer treats or a favourite toy nearby, then gradually move them inside. Short, voluntary visits are more useful than forcing a long stay.

Practice before the trip

Once the carrier feels ordinary, close it briefly, lift it gently, and return it to the same spot. Repeat over several days at your pet’s pace.
